Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord
From Deacon Dick~
Palm Sunday invites us to pray Jesus’ last words in Luke’s Gospel:
“Father into your hands I commend …”
On this Sabbath Day, we hold our palms high as they are blessed with Holy Water … we listen to the proclamation of the first Gospel in which people shout: “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord.” … we put ourselves into Luke’s Gospel story of Jesus’ passion and death. Then we enter into the Church’s most sacred prayer: The Eucharist in which we receive the Prince of Peace who recoiled from returning violence for violence …who rejected hate in favor of love.
During our High Holy Days, please join us as we ritually experience once more the story of our salvation. Frankly, what items on our calendars are more important?
Holy Thursday finds us at St. Clare’s joining Jesus at Table as we celebrate the Mass of the Lord’s Supper. Following Jesus’ command, we will wash one another’s feet and walk with him to the Garden of Gethsemane.
Good Friday in both parishes, invites us to struggle with Jesus in his ascent to the Cross of Calvary and to accompany him into the darkness of the tomb. We venerate the Cross on which hung the Savior of the world.
Holy Saturday begins in darkness at Christ Our Light with the new fire igniting the Paschal Candle as a symbol of the Light of Christ. By candlelight, we will listen to our salvation story in the sacred chanting of the “Exultet.” We then emerge from the darkness of the tomb, as it were, into Light as we celebrate Christ’s Resurrection and welcome 3 of our sisters & brothers into full communion with the Church. “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”
Please see the bulletin for further details and, by the way, bring along someone else to
“Come … pray with us!”
